A national historic landmark, the Mar-a-Lago — it's name means "sea to lake" in Latin — sits on 20 acres of manicured lawns in Palm Beach, Florida. It is located between the ocean and Lake Worth, a spot Marjorie Merriweather Post chose specially for it in the mid-1920s. The house, which opened in 1927, is hurricane-resistant, anchored to a coral reef by concrete and steel. Today the location is considered the most valuable parcel of land in Florida, according to the estate's Web site. Donald Trump bought the estate in 1985, and in 1995, he made it the Mar-a-Lago Club. Trump has since added a swimming pool, a beauty salon, a spa, a beach club, six championship tennis courts (one grass and the rest red clay) and a croquet court. He also renovated the ballroom and built both a tennis pro shop and a boutique on the property.The Mar-a-Lago is known worldwide for its gorgeous and elegant architecture and interior design — with stone shipped via boat from Italy and roof tiles that date back to the 15th century.
